Pascal Wax's portrait

Pascal lent himself to the game of portraits, here are some answers to our questions ...

Since when do you evolve in music?

Pascal :
I have been practicing drums as a self-taught musician for about 20 years, with a first year at the conservatory of St Laurent du Var for the discovery of the instrument and the learning of the rhythmic bases.
Then : 1st apartment, 1st electro drums, and onwards ! My hi-fi system first, then internet and Youtube became my best teachers (to the great despair of my neighbors!)

During this period, with some friends we founded "Pearly Wax", a compo group mixing Soul, Blues and (P)Funk* (*in reference to George Clinton & The Parliement Funkadelic). After 10 years and an 8 track project, I left for other horizons. And so in 2017 by a happy coincidence I joined "Riff Tonic". Over time and our adventures more incredible than the others (A Netflix series soon perhaps?), this group has become like a second family for me; that is to say like great friends, passion and troubles in addition lol ...

RdvROCK
What are your musical influences?

Pascal :
It depends. My current drumming has been influenced by Foo Fighters, Red Hot, RATM, Incubus, Deftones, Porcupine Tree, Tool, and I'm sure I'm forgetting...

After, in terms of musical tastes though, my influences are diverse and varied. I listen to everything. Rock-prog, electro music, big metal, hip-hop (preferably US), trip-hop, funk, blues, punk/rock, jazz, Latin music... In short, it depends on my mood.

RdvROCK
Have you already recorded an album or an EP?

Pascal :
Yes, with "Riff Tonic" of course ! A 1st single in 2019 containing Revolution (clip still available on Youtube) and Exit Road. Then the EP "Andromeda" released in early 2020 (no luck huh?) containing the 5 tracks: Resilience, Hypnotized, Andromeda (clip also available on Youtube), Until Dusk and Alone. All available for listening on all platforms: Spotify, Deezer, Youtube ...

Previously with "Pearly Wax" as I mentioned above, we had recorded at the time an 8 track project with our limited means called "Out of Time". The project mixed soul, ballad, funk and world music, we were quite proud of it. It's still available on Youtube if you're curious.

RdvROCK
Which song fits you best?

Pascal :
If we talk about our EP Andromeda, the song that fits me the best is "Alone"; because it talks about the smartphone addiction (which I am not at all a victim of, isn't it Vincent and Ines??), the addiction to social networks as well as to appearances. Our addiction to the approval and validation of our every move by the people around us is one of the cancers of our society. This is why we become slaves of our own life!
On condition of course to analyze that the absolute must not be annihilated, by the illusory precariousness of our loves, and that it is not necessary to guarantee the unreality, under absent and disenchanted asperities, of our iconoclastic and deoxidized thoughts, by our excommunicated desires of the destituted fatality, and Vice and versa... ;)

Apart from that I don't have a song or piece that represents me the best because I listen and I like so many different things that it will be according to my mood of the moment.

RdvROCK
Which artist would you like to share the stage with?

Pascal :
I would literally dream of sharing a stage with the Foo Fighters or RATM. Otherwise a big drum feat with the Jurassic 5 rappers or even the Beastie Boys!

RdvROCK
What are your other passions or interests besides music?

Pascal :
Haha... So those who know me know, I'm a BIG Geek! Passionate about imaginary worlds, SF, heroic fantasy, post-apo, genre movies, series, books, comics, etc... And especially MMORPGs (World of Warcraft if I had to name only one lol). But I promise to take care of myself!

RdvROCK
If you could only keep 3 albums among all the ones you own, which ones would you keep?

Pascal :
Very very difficult question for me... But after much reflection, if I had to keep only 3 albums, it would be :
- Foo Fighter - Wasting Light,
- Porcupine Tree - In Absentia,
- Jurassic 5 - Power of Numbers.

RdvROCK
What is the unmentionable song you sing in your shower?

Pascal :
Easy! Right now it's "How deep is your love" by the BeeGees. Don't ask me why lol...

RdvROCK
Define, in 3 words, what music means to you

Pascal :
Type, less, loud !
