Philippe (Ian-Ian)'s portrait

Philippe lent himself to the game of portraits, here are some answers to our questions ...

RdvROCK
Since when do you evolve in music?

Philippe :
I started as a drummer for Pipsqueak, a Parisian grunge band in the early 2000's, then became a guitarist. Four years as a live guitarist for Lara, an Armenian singer with whom I toured Europe from 2002 to 2006 before moving to the French Riviera where I joined the band Erebouni as a bass player. I was then able to continue as a guitarist for a few years in cover bands before returning in 2015 to my favorite instrument, the drums.

RdvROCK
What are your musical influences?

Philippe :
I really like progressive rock, for the diversity of rhythms, sounds and melodies (bands like Transatlantic or Neal Morse Band). I originally come from Metal, I still regularly listen to Iron Maiden or Metallica and many others in the car. My hero for the past few years is Devin Townsend, a genius composer and an exceptional voice. The most beautiful arrangements I've enjoyed since Prince and Earth Wind & Fire, who are also some of my favorite artists.
Classical music is omnipresent for me, Beethoven and Mozart of course, Chopin and Franz Liszt (the first two albums, after that it became too commercial).

RdvROCK
Have you already recorded an album or an EP?

Philippe :
I loved composing with Pipsqueak 20 years ago when I was very young. I composed alone (being lucky enough to be a multi-instrumentalist) a two hour Rock Opera sung by Vartan the singer of Despite the End, and I am currently in the middle of recording a 70 minute album to be released in December.

RdvROCK
Which song fits you best?

Philippe :
Rhoooooo !!!! I see that you are used to the difficulty of choosing only one by leaving several choices, but in my case it's all seen.
Cowboys from Hell from Pantera, it's simple, efficient and powerful without being violent. I like the concept of power without violence.

RdvROCK
Which artist would you like to share the stage with?

Philippe :
Frank Zappa. The ultimate artist, the one who knew how to put virtuosity and technique at the service of music. Creative and visionary.

RdvROCK
What are your other passions or interests besides music?

Philippe :
I spend a lot of my free time playing video games. I still have my good old Megadrive, my little Nintendo too. Between two modern games on my Xbox One, I admit to playing a little Super Mario Bros or Street Fighter 2.

RdvROCK
If you could only keep 3 albums among all the ones you own, which ones would you keep?

Philippe :
Chopin - Etudes 5 to 15
Pantera - Cowboys from Hell
Korn - Life is Peachy

RdvROCK
What is the unmentionable song you sing in your shower?

Philippe :
I'm not ashamed of anything, and I admit that the theme from Titanic sung by Celine Dion is regularly massacred in my shower.

RdvROCK
Define, in 3 words, what music means to you

Philippe :
Expression of the soul
