Back to the Offensive Rock Festival in Antibes, July 16th 2022

3 groups of composers followed one another for this 1st edition of the Festival. Positive energy and superb interpretations on the program of this evening!

Lyla On The Rocks Walter Pink Zannalee
The Offensive Rock Festival allowed us to discover 3 bands of very different universes, but whose obvious common point was the talent.

The stage is wide and is decorated with beautiful metal sculptures representing musicians with their instruments, works created by Eric Gioé, Walter Pink's drummer and organizer of the festival. A multi-faceted artist!

A beginning of the evening with Lyla On The Rocks, a band gathering 7 artists since 2015.
Despite the overwhelming heat, the 6 musicians with Antoine (drums), Arnaud (bass), Gaby (keyboards), Fred (guitar/trumpet), Seb (guitar/trombone), Rémy (saxophone), and Lyla (vocals) performed their compositions with brio.
Lyla's voice is absolutely incredible: a strong voice with a soulful timbre that allows her to surf on various registers with ease and strength.
The artists offered a high-flying orchestration, between brass, strings, percussion and keyboard in a very well constructed jazz rock repertoire of great quality, with a swaying and catchy rhythm, and an effective groove. What to release an EP or an album to share with a larger public their works which deserve it amply.
Watch "Energy" in video, a superb song, which according to Lyla, speaks about the band because the music is made of this impalpable and difficult to define energy.

Setlist: Hope, My pain, Circus, sweetyears, Skywards, Behind Memories, Moon, Little Girl, Mr Red Boots, Before Dawn, In the City, Teen Spirit and 2 covers: Making Music by Deluxe and Miss me by Raquel Rodriguez.

Walter Pink, the second band of the evening, is a progressive rock band, created in 2017, with Eric Gioe (drums), Elias Sabbah (bass), Nicolas Muller (guitar) and Fred Vandewaeter (vocals).
Their compositions are full of feeling, vibrant with efficiency and originality for a tonic and bewitching result. Fred's voice is warm and powerful, giving off a sensitivity that can go as far as fragility when necessary and arouse emotion.
The covers of "The Wall" and "Le poinçonneur des Lilas" were interpreted with a lot of spirit and singularity attesting to the great instrumental creativity of the band.
The band released 1st physical 5 track EP in 2021, "Box 79" and also available on all streaming platforms. My preferences go to the sublime: "Naïve Song" and "City Of Love" to find in video.

Setlist : Naïve song, A ride, Walter & puppets, L'aiguille, Obsessions, The wall (pink Floyd), Open wound, The train, Drunk dream, City of love Le poinçonneur des Lilas (S. Gainsbourg) and Community.

Zannalee & The Zebras had the privilege to close the festival. Zannalee, on vocals and guitar, is accompanied by Raphaël on keyboards, Kevo on drums and Luca on bass.
Very at ease, Zannalee assumes his stage game with relaxation. His voice allows him to go from a very pleasant clear singing to a singing perched in the Prince with a great fluidity.
The rhythm of his guitar touch is mastered and he knew how to surround himself with musicians full of energy and enthusiasm to interpret the songs he composed.
Good mood on stage and exchanges with the audience, especially with the fans present to listen to them and sing the chorus of "Escape", one of the main tracks of the EP "The Great Dive" of Zannalee, released in 2020. A solid funk and pop repertoire, performed with gusto and panache.

Setlist: Blame The Game, Upside Down, Mr Cockroach, Strawberry Cake, Too Tight, Escape, I Swear, White Pages, Screw Me, Do U Wanna Drive?, Firework Finale, Red Wine, L.S.D., Call U Mama.

The Art-Scènes troupe was invited to perform before and during the interludes between each of the 3 sets. A lot of humor on the program.

As Lyla so well expressed it, there are few places in which the groups of composers have the opportunity to present their creations and it is really regrettable, because our area is rich in talents which deserve to be put in light. Also, thanks to Eric who worked to realize this 1st session, very successful, welcomed by a conquered public.
We would have liked it to go on until the end of the night and we hope very much that there will be a next programming of this very young festival.
