Frag Dog live at the Altherax

Frag Dog has once again met this double challenge by ensuring the show and by interpreting with brilliance the songs chosen among the leading compositions of Shaka Ponk.

Tables are arranged where the public usually rushes, to respect the sanitary measures of distanciation related to covid19, at the Altherax in Nice in this June 27, 2020.

It is 9 pm when the live of Frag Dog, Tribute Shaka Ponk begins its show. Created in February 2016, the band, composed of Charly FRAG DOG (Frah) and Audrey VOCALISTA (Samaha) on vocals, Fab GRF (CC) on guitar, Yohann MZCK (Mandris) on bass who joined the line-up recently, Lilly MJLT (Steve) on keyboards and samples and Thomas DRUMS (Ion) on drums, performs all over France and has received encouragement from the original band. Which is not surprising. It was the 3rd time I saw them: the 1st being at RockFest, in La Gaude in May 2018 and the 2nd in La Roquette-sur-Siagne in April 2019. Tonight, the stage was smaller than in previous sessions, which was a real challenge since there are 6 of them working together, in addition to Goz, the virtual monkey, present on a small screen, fixed on the left, on the back wall.

I was eager to meet them again, because Shaka Ponk is not only an excellent French alternative rock band, they are also real showmen.

So what about Frag Dog?

They once again met this double challenge by ensuring the show and by interpreting with brilliance the songs chosen among the leading compositions of Shaka Ponk. The tone was set as soon as they entered the stage with Shiza Radio, punchy as can be. Then, the songs followed one another with the same energy and, with the same energy from start to finish, despite the suffocating heat that reigned in the room and it was clear that they were suffering from it. Sweat was dripping down my forehead. If I had stayed calmer and not danced while listening to them... But when it's pulsating, I can't stop moving, except when I'm filming. In spite of the heat, the 2 singers and the 4 musicians gave everything. They were professional, while entertaining the audience and inviting them to do the same. The complicity between the 6 members was obvious: exchanges of smiles, glances, games between them, crossing each other, having fun without ever jostling each other. Everything was fluid, because well broken in. Each of them has a real mastery. At least 4 of them evolve in other formations. Thomas was really into his drums. The bassist and the guitarist, Yohann and Fab, had just as much fun. Lilly, more discreet, in the background, was concentrated and very involved. The 2 singers, Audrey and Charly, were as usual up to the task, their voices are clear and powerful. They are careful to keep a close contact with the public by regularly addressing them, by calling them and by slipping in a few jokes.
They enjoyed themselves and we enjoyed them. Their interpretation of "Smells Like a Teen Spirit" was a pure moment of happiness.
